Local and visiting artists are invited to demonstrate the use of various media and techniques and to lead evening, half day and full day workshops. We arrange sketching and painting days out as well as trips to art galleries and other interesting venues. Recent Workshop
On Wednesday 26 March, Art Club member, Teresa Widd, demonstrated Gelli printing for members to see and try at an evening workshop.
This is a fascinating process which produces some very decorative and colourful results.
Acrylic paint of any chosen colour, with just the right consistency and amount, is laid onto a Gel plate with a brayer (roller). This gives a light paint layer onto which any embossed patterned surface may be pressed. For example, Teresa pressed part of a plastic insert from a Ferrero Rocher box onto the inked surface. After removing it, a sheet of white paper was pressed gently down onto the gel surface. Peeling it back then revealed that the pattern had been transferred to it from the gel.
There is clearly a great range of possibilities for an experienced gel printer. Teresa demonstrated the same technique with several feathers. The result was a beautiful delicate feather outline. She also explained how results could be layered up with practice.
Members then had the opportunity to enjoy trying their own skills.
Our thanks to Teresa for giving us a most interesting evening and a chance to learn something very different.
